John Earl's Explorer Model & Dioramas

John H. Earl built a beautiful model of the John Smith Shallop, Explorer, entirely from scratch. It is at a scale of ¾” = 1’, and made mostly of pine, beech, and poplar. It took John about 2-1/2 months (including several hours of taking measurements off the real boat) to complete the model.

John also built two delightfully detailed and realistic dioramas. One contains three Wright skiffs capturing three of the phases of the museum’s Family Boatbuilding Program. The other features a Skipjack under construction.
